The Moon Who Lost Her Glow

πŸŒ™
πŸ“– Full Story
Full Story

Every night, the moon rose.

And every night, the moon glowed.

Silvery. Steady. Certain.

The owls flew by her light.
The foxes hunted by her light.
The moths danced by her light.
The rivers glittered by her light.

The moon had always glowed.

Until the night she didn’t. πŸŒ™

πŸŒ‘ The Dark Night

The moon rose as usual.

She took her place in the sky.

And waited to glow.

Nothing happened.

She tried harder.

Still nothing.

Down below, the forest went very confused.

An owl flew into a branch.
Bonk.

A fox ran in a circle because he couldn’t see the path.

The moths bumped into each other.
Bop. Bop. Bop.

The rivers looked dark and ordinary.

“Moon?” called an owl. “Are you there?”

“I’m here,” said the moon. “I just can’t β€” I don’t know where my glow went.”

πŸŒ™ What the Stars Said

The stars had been watching.

“When did you last rest?” asked a star.

The moon thought about it.

She shone every night. Every single night. Full. Half. Crescent. But always something.

“I don’t rest,” said the moon.

“Everyone needs to rest,” said the star.

“But they need my lightβ€””

“They need you to be well first,” said the star. “You can’t pour light out forever without taking some back in.”

The moon had never thought about that.

πŸ’› Ella Waits for the Glow

Ella was looking out the bedroom window at the dark sky.

“The moon isn’t glowing,” said Ella.

“She’ll come back,” said the grown-up in the doorway.

“How do you know?”

“She always does.”

The moon, up in the sky, heard this.

She breathed in the light of the distant stars.

Slowly. All the way in.

And breathed out her own glow.

Slowly. All the way out.

Shhhhh. Whooooo.

The glow came back.

Warm and silver and exactly right.

Down below, the owl called.
The fox found the path.
The moths danced.
The river glittered.

Ella smiled at the window.

She always comes back.

She just needed a moment. πŸŒ™

Today's Lesson
You can't pour light out forever without taking some back in. Everyone β€” even the moon β€” needs to rest.
